Addison is an undergraduate student at New York University Tisch School of the Arts, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Performance Studies, minoring in Dance and Law and Society. She has had a lifelong passion for the arts and has been actively involved in vocal, theater, and dance productions. She is now very committed to the intersection of law, social justice, and performance. Addison hopes to use her voice to advocate for the rights of marginalized communities and to raise awareness of social, political, and artistic matters in the performance world.
MESSAGE FROM THE CURATORS
As curators, we both bring a lot to the table: knowledge, performance practices, entertainment experience, and most importantly, unique perspectives and curiosity. We aim to bring you fun, fresh, unique, and interesting pieces on all things performance, art, and theory. We prioritize inclusivity and collaboration across all interests, fostering a supportive environment that encourages growth and learning through the lens of performance studies.
As Richard Schechner, founder of the field, notes in his forthcoming 5th Edition of Performance Studies: An Introduction, “[Performance Studies] explores and theorizes the broad spectrum of performance. This broad spectrum ranges from the performing arts to the performances of everyday life; from ritual and play to sports and other popular entertainments; from the performances of lawyers, medical doctors, business people, and teachers to the performances of plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and householders. In all these, and more, people prepare and play roles, follow socially determined scripts, costume themselves to identify their roles, and interact appropriately for their roles.” (Schechner).
Drawing on this expansive understanding, we engage with diverse themes and topics to foster a rich exchange of perspectives and create a globally minded space that enriches artistic expression. Our organization is dedicated to networking, collaboration, and continuous learning, striving to create a seamless transition from college to professional artistic careers and interests. In doing so, we bridge the gap between performance and its intersection with everyday life, facilitating ongoing discussions on the interdisciplinary approaches to performance and the everyday.
