Performance and Affect of Friendship in IDD Communities
Rethinking IDD Relationships Through Dramaturgy and Frommian Humanism
3DA, or the Disability Association for Advocacy, is a nonprofit organization that supports individuals with disabilities and promotes their rights. Their work focuses on advocacy, awareness, and providing resources to help people with disabilities lead fulfilling lives. They aim to create a more inclusive society by addressing the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and fostering understanding among the broader community.
As a journalism intern researching and writing articles on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), I've had the opportunity to delve deeper into the critical issues surrounding this topic. This experience has opened my eyes to the various barriers that individuals with IDD face, including misconceptions, lack of access to resources, and the need for greater societal inclusion.
In my articles, I aim to give a voice to individuals who are often overlooked and to encourage discussions that can lead to positive change through unique ways of positioning and examining disability. Working with organizations like 3DA has been invaluable, as it has given me insights into effective advocacy strategies and the importance of community support.
